What is a Medium Voltage cabin?
A medium-voltage cabin is a switchboard or room in which electricity with a voltage between 1,000 and 36,000 volts is managed and distributed. The cabin forms the link between the high-voltage grid of the grid operator (such as Fluvius) and your internal low-voltage plant. This is where the conversion from medium voltage to safe, workable voltage for your machines, lighting and other applications takes place.
A typical medium-voltage cabin consists of:
- Medium-voltage cells: For safe switching and securing power flow.
- Transformer: Convert medium voltage to low voltage.
- Telemanagement cabinet: For monitoring and controlling your installation remotely.
- Safety systems: Such as earthing devices and short-circuit protection.
